A theory could be said to provide a general explanation for observations made over time (Doris, Denim & Gabel, 1990).
In view of this statement,
a. Explain what you understand by the term "Behaviourism".
b. Discuss its characteristics.
c. What is your opinion on its relevance to present-day teaching and learning?
Give reasons for your answer from practical examples from your field of study.
It is my pleasure to give you the following as guidelines:
1. Dictionaries, encyclopedias and research sources (and then especially whose within the field of education) will help you to understand and clarify the term. These sources will also help you with the characteristics of the term.
- I am going to add a list of these sources as available in the library. These sources are from our reference collection and are therefor not allowed out of the library.

2. There are also quite a few books in the library on the topic. Do an "Advanced search" on the catalogue. Use the following as keywords - behaviourism or behaviorism and teach* (teach, teaching, teacher). Locate your search to Groenkloof Campus (Edu).
In the reserved section is a books I suggest you use - EDUGV 153.15 ORMROD with title Human Learning by J E Ormrod.
3.To get journal articles, do a database search on Academic Search Premier and ERIC (under Education Databases on our website), with the keywords - behaviourism or behaviorism and teach* (teach, teaching, teacher). Remember to tick the full text button!
